Year 1
Mrs Thompson
Year One is a streamed class made up of 22 children: 15 girls and 7 boys.
Our class rules follow the 'Be' Attitudes
1. Be a quality person
2. Be friendly
3. Be polite
4. Be considerate
5. Be a hard worker
6. Be aware of another person's space
7. Be responsible
8. Believe in yourself – You can do anything!
Year Ones' themes this year include learning about Dinosaurs, Australian animals, Spiders, Fairytales, the Senses, Transport, Energy and Change and Celebrations. In 1T we integrate Literacy and Numeracy across each of our themes.
We use a co-operative learning approach to promote student learning. The children work in teams to share their ideas, knowledge and experiences. Teams develop the social skills of sharing, leading, communicating, building trust and managing conflict. Children also work at their individual level in literacy with streamed reading groups and Count Me In Too for Maths across the Infants.
In Year One we also learn about how we relate with people and follow the social skills program "You Can Do It". This year we will learn about Resilience, Organisation, Persistence and Confidence. Excursions are also planned to Taronga Zoo and the Civic Theatre for a live production of the Emperor's new clothes. Parents are always welcome in Year One. I try to have an open door policy where any concerns can be discussed. We aim to treat each other with respect and to have a happy class where the children want to learn in a stimulating environment.
