Year 5
Mr Johnson
5J is a class of 22 students – 12 boys and 10 girls.
During year five there are lots of opportunities for both girls and boys to be involved in activities such as choir, dance groups, Starstruck, sport gala days, debating groups, public speaking as well as an overnight camp to the Great Aussie Bush Camp.
Year 5 students also train later in the year to become Buddies who will help our new Kinders settle into our school happily. This is something that all students look forward to.
Another exciting event that happens in Term 4 is the election of the student executive for the next year.
Year 5 students are encouraged to read regularly both at home and at school. In class they will read and study a number of novels, such as 'Boss of the Pool' and 'Misery Guts'.
Students' writing skills are continually being developed with a variety of opportunities being presented. Computers are used to enhance presentation and to allow students to master powerpoints, spreadsheets as well as being able to import a variety of pictures and graphics.
We still need to learn our tables and work on our algorisms. To make our activities more practical Stage 3 students participate in special hands on maths days in our hall.
We are always trying to learn new skills that will help us in our everyday lives and through the 'You Can Do It' program we practise and discuss ways we can be more organised, confident and resilient.
Year 5 is a very busy and exciting year.
